Too many men and women have died fighting for this country for people to act like this. Watching the video gets me fired up because of their utter disrespect for our country and everything we stand for. I use to think that both men did good journalistic work, but this shows what assholes they are.
It’s bad enough to not stand for the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem. It’s even worse when you don’t stand after you’re getting yelled at by congressional delegates. Forget your political party, as a country we must demand more from those in a position of leadership or media.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Am I overreacting? Or are these two idiots getting the negative publicity they deserve?
I think youre being too harsh on Piers (and not just because he’s British). First, I want to point out that Herman Cain and Bret Baier were right beside Blitzer and Morgan and they had the decency to stand. At least Piers actually attempted to stand.
“An eyewitness at the Tampa Forum, told The Daily Caller that after Morgan was pressured by some of the attendees to stand for the anthem by a smattering of boos, he actually attempted to stand, but was met with resistance from Blitzer who placed a hand on Morgan’s arm.”
Piers Morgan has been working for CNN for 1 year and has never been in this situation before. Wolf Blitzer has probably been working for CNN since before we were born so there’s certainly a level of unspoken precedence.
What’s the argument for calling Piers a scumbag? Should he stand for our anthem because he works for a globalized American company? Because we’re allies with the UK? Because he’s at an American convention and reporting on it?
The man who should be criticized is Wolf Blitzer, a man I consider American. Not only am I pissed he wouldn’t stand but he was seen showing/telling Piers not to stand. That should tell you all you need to know about the character of a man. A man who doesn’t even appreciate his own country.
Good points Jimmy. If Piers tried to stand but was encouraged not to by Wolf Blitzer, Piers gets a few extra points in my book (still not happy about it) and that makes Blitzer an even bigger jackass.
It’s obvious that Wolf Blitzer doesn’t understand what it means to be an American and/or pay respect to those who gave him the freedom he enjoys. As for Morgan, I liken it to a situation where an American was overseas and the UK national anthem was played. We don’t know the words or pledge allegiance to their country, but I would like to think we would at least stand out of respect for them and their traditions. Easier said then done for sure.
At the end of the day, this is yet another example of the media (both political sides) believing they are bigger than they actually are. I would have loved to see more coverage on this by CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, or local stations. I saw almost none. Thanks for the comment and for sharing the clarification on Morgan. I always knew you were a true Brit
