We Are….Scumbags! Why Paterno and Penn State Deserve Shit

Penn State and Joe Paterno have been synonymous with college football for the last 50+ years. Over the last year we have all began to ask – What has really been going on at Penn State?!

Today we found out. A special investigative counsel, lead by former FBI Director Louis

Penn State Scandal

The five well-respected PSU officials who were ousted as scumbags by Freeh Report.

Freeh, released their 267 page report this morning. To say the report was damning is an understatement. Paterno and three other leaders at Penn State seem to have known about Gerry Sandusky and his atrocious acts of sexual misconduct with children. Not only did they know, but they actively sought to cover up the incidents and refrained from reporting them to authorities.

This didn’t happen one time. It happened over the better part of a decade. Yes, you read that right. A fucking decade! Again we ask, WHAT THE HELL HAS BEEN GOING ON AT PENN STATE? This is absolutely ludicrous. Grown men stood by and allowed another man to sexually abuse children. For God’s sake, what is the world coming to? Considering the source, I am going to take this report as fact for my next thoughts.

1. Penn State should immediately take down the Joe Paterno statue outside of the stadium. Who wants to go to a football game and walk by a scumbag that allowed sexual assault on children? Not me.

2. Paterno was a fantastic football coach. One of the best ever. This one mistake completely erases every single one of the wins that he had earned. The university and fans must take a stand for what is right, both morally and legally. This is accomplished by distancing themselves from Paterno, his family and his accomplishments.

3. Paterno, and even Sandusky, has given a lot to PSU. There have been numerous large donations and even have buildings named in their honor. PSU must remove the names of these criminals and get it done yesterday. Nobody needs to glorify these assholes.

4. Paterno was a great coach. Penn State was a great football program. However, these shitheads deserve to have the nation know who they are as men and what they did. It is repulsive to even fathom one man committing the crimes, but then to be covered up by a group of such highly distinguished men makes it even worse. Turns out they are no better than the convicted felons rotting away in prison.

So here’s the deal. It now seems very clear that Joe Paterno was not the man that we all thought he was. Penn State and their administration were not as distinguished as they led the world to believe. Stop trying to sugar coat what happened. A man raped little boys and deserves to die in jail. That man’s friends covered up his actions. Those 4 men who allowed it should be thrown in jail as well. Live by the sword, die by the sword. It’s about time Americans stopped cutting public figures a break and started demanding the highest standards from them. Our children need better role models, our country needs better citizens, and the world could use a few less idiots.

  1. I have to speak up about this. Though what Joe Paterno did was wrong and inexcusable, people out side of the State College do not and will not ever completely understand the entire emotion, consequences, or situation surrounding this horrendous series of events. Joe Paterno has done so much good for the State College Community and Penn State. The report gave a fair and honest depiction of what happened years ago and outline a situation where men fell weak in the hour they most needed strength. I agree with what was done to Joe Paterno and the rest of the Penn State Staff that was involved. I grow tired of people outside of the community that have had no interaction with any of the individuals that have been paraded around the media. You can pass judgement on the people and events that you have no direct contact with, but for those that live in the heart of the entire situation a different story is present. If you did not know Joe Paterno or see the great effects that he had on the State College community, your judgement is the sole reflection of what is being portrayed in the media.

    • I can’t argue that Joe Paterno didn’t do some amazing things for the school and community, both economically and culturally. The attacks on him, his friends and their decisions should not be mistaken for attacks on Penn State the educational institution, student-athletes, or other faculty and staff.

Penn State is a great place. A few good men happened to do evil things that will result in repercussions though. Remember “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” Penn State will recover but the men responsible should be handled accordingly.

  2. (I am not anonymous) I couldn’t agree more sir! Frankly, that college should face some very severe penalties, up to and including shutting it down. While that may be a bit extreme, I guarantee you If I had a kid there, that kid would be transferring to a different school. The school’s integrity has been so damaged that I don’t see it/them ever fully recovering. What comes around goes around. These guys got their comeuppins…

    • John I have tried to consider the possible sanctions I would recommend if I was in the position to do so. It’s my belief that the academic side of the University should go unpunished. Professors and students did nothing wrong. The school administration should be removed immediately however – it was their responsibility to know.

That brings me to my two most controversial ideas. The first is to put a four year ban on all sports at the university. Every coach, staff member and administrator in athletics is removed. While not easy, the right things hardly ever are. The culture is obviously a problem that can’t be addressed through reprimands. I liken it to fraternities. When frats get in trouble, the school usually suspends for 4 years to allow all students to graduate and remove any connection to the former culture. Again not easy but probably necessary.

The second involves students and parents. Avoid the school like the plague. We live in a society where we all run out and buy skittles in protest when a young man is killed with them in his pocket. Why not also take a stand for morals and ethics? Parents, don’t send your children there. PSU obviously can’t protect them. Students, transfer as far away as possible. Do you want to answer the question “So why did you stay at PSU after all that?” at each job interview? No sir, not me.

While these would damage the local economy and cripple the university, something must be done. Our banks and auto industry are too big to fail, but is PSU? That’s for the people to decide.

      • These are excellent suggestions. The sports idea is the best, but that may be more attractive to me as I don’t think sports should be such a major part of college to begin with. But no way would my child be staying there.
